Synopsis
European equity markets are set for a mixed open amidst mostly lower Asian equities Wednesday. Tech selling weighing on South Korean, Japan and Taiwan benchmarks. Hong Kong leading China market declines. S&P 500 futures extending losses afterhours.
EU Commission expected to present energy package to address the fall-out from the US-Iran war and likely to include measures to cut demand, review of renewable hydrogen as well as cuts to electricity taxes and grid tariffs. EU's von der Leyen participates in the EU-Republic of Korea Summit. In the UK, after MPs questions on Scotland there's the regular weekly PMQs at 12noon BST followed by the remaining stages of the Railways Bill, whilst committee topic include regulation of the consumer insurance market at 10:00 and student loans and taxation of graduates at 14:15 (government ministers).
In central banks, Norges Bank publishes the Financial Infrastructure 2026 report at 9:00CET. ECB's Buch panellist at 10:00CET at Stockholm International Banking Crisis Management Conf. DIW press conf at 9:30CET on its Summer Economic Forecast.
Amongst events are Berlin International Air Show (through Sun) with Chancellor Merz due to officially open the event in the afternoon, German Assn. of Energy and Water Industries conf (through Thu), speakers include minister for economic affairs and energy Reiche at ~13:50CET, ANFAC hosting panel discussion entitled "Spain Auto CEO Summit," at 10:30CET at the Global Mobility Call and OLEOFUELS Conf (through Thu). Nordtech (NTECH.SS) first day of trading on Nasdaq Stockholm.
