StreetAccount Summary - Asian Market Preview: Nikkei Futures +1.04%, Hang Seng Futures (0.13%), ASX SPI 200 (0.57%), S&P Futures (0.06%)

Jun 18 ,2026

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for a mixed start to Friday trade. Futures signaling opening gains in Japan and South Korea, and initial decline in Australia. Greater China markets closed for Dragon Boat Festival. S&P 500 futures flat afterhours (US markets closed Friday for Juneteenth). Australian bonds little changed after Treasury yields pulled back following post-Fed backup. Crude backing down again. Gold and silver extending losses. FX markets steady after dollar index strengthened to 13-month high, and yen broke 160-handle. Bitcoin extended retreat.

    • Semi rally the big story overnight with SOX up another 6%. Nothing specific behind the move, which corresponds with a continued oil selloff following US-Iran agreement to end conflict. Oil selloff also helping to tamp down bond yields. Been a busy week in chip-related news with Apple partnering with Intel to design and manufacture chips in US, Amazon in discussions to sell Trainium chips to other companies, and SK Hynix shipping HBM4E samples to major customers. Street also out with bullish notes on US HDD names and China AI plays.

    • Markets shook off hawkish Fed takeaways with yields backing down amid oil pullback after US and Iran formally signed MoU to end conflict. While signing was widely expected, the expected ramp in Strait of Hormuz shipping activity, moves by Gulf states to restart production and prospect of unsanctioned Iranian supply hitting market have helped heaped pressure on oil prices. Oil supply relief seems to be overshadowing skepticism about final agreement being reached after 60 days..
