Synopsis:
Asian markets set for negative start to Friday trade. Futures signaling opening declines in Japan and South Korea. Hong Kong tracking for small initial decline. Australia set for flat start. S&P 500 futures up slightly afterhours. Australian bonds weakening with yields up 1-2 bp after Treasuries came off best levels overnight. Corresponded with rebound in oil following report IRGC struck ship in Strait of Hormuz (though crude weaker in post settlement trade). Gold and silver also backing down from earlier highs. FX markets steady after dollar index ended little changed. Bitcoin fluctuating around $60K.
Momentum rally carried into the US session following Thursday strength among Asian semis, memory and chip equipment manufacturers. SOX rose another 3.6%. Most of the focus was on MU's blowout results and guidance, customer supply agreements and commentary about extended supply shortage. However, result also heightened attention on memory input cost pressures with AAPL and MSFT announcing price hikes. AI data center hardware names also under pressure.
