Crude oil futures higher trading slightly higher early Monday after US and Iran extended tit-for-tat strikes in the region that began last Thursday. Yet, US equity futures strength attributed to latest reports that both sides agreed to stand down ahead of planned talks in Qatar Tuesday. Outside of Middle East, AI/tech remains the dominant theme. Ongoing attention on SpaceX (SPCX) as Nasdaq confirmed the stock will be added to the Nasdaq 100 index 7-Jul. Regional focus on Korea Economic Daily report that Samsung (005930.KS) and SK Hynix (000660.KS) expected to announce major domestic investments approaching KRW2,000T ($1.3T) over the next decade (double earlier ballpark estimates) Meanwhile, recent AI volatility and broader systematic impacts giving more traction to cautious narratives. Press highlighted the BIS annual report included warnings of AI bubble risk compounded by increasing reliance on debt.

    • In central banks, BOE's Pill is panellist at 6:00BST at Uzbekistan central bank's monetary policy dialogue and there's ECB Forum on Central Banking (through Wed), Lagarde speech at 20:00CET. Norges Bank publishes its Q3 borrowing plans.

    • In politics, Chinese commerce minister Wang Wentao visits Brussels for high-level talks with EU officials on China-EU trade relations (through Tue).

    • In the UK, Andy Burnham will give a major policy speech later, his first since launching a bid to become prime minister, in which he will announce plans for a "No 10 North". Speaking in Manchester, Burnham is expected to say the body will be tasked with driving growth "across every nation and region of the UK" as he vows to put devolution at the heart of his programme for government. The former Greater Manchester mayor is understood to be considering handing local authorities some powers over taxes, including business rates. He will set out a commitment for a "10-year mission" to raise living standards, as well as proposals on youth employment, in order to "lift Britain back up to where it should be". Fortum (FORTUM.FH) launched a recommended NOK 47/share cash offer for Elmera (ELMRA.NO), valuing the Nordic electricity retailer at ~NOK 5.1 billion, representing a 59% premium to the undisturbed share price. Persistent Systems (533179.IN) agreed to acquire German IT firm Nagarro (NA9.GR) for €81/share in cash. Ipsen (IPN.FP) bolstered its pipeline with the $450M acquisition of Kartos Therapeutics, plus up to $1.3B in milestones.
