  • Synopsis:

    • Asia equities ended mostly higher Tuesday as tech stocks recovered: Japan's Nikkei 225 and Topix both pared Monday's losses with strong gains; China's ChiNext more than 7% higher, Shenzhen, the Kospi and Taiex benchmarks also all sharply higher. A gain for Singapore; Hong Kong and Australia flat. India slightly lower. US futures higher, Europe paring opening gains. US dollar flat, NZD higher after a strong inflation print, other Asia currencies ticked higher. Treasuries mixed, JGB yields higher. Precious metals notably stronger, base metals mixed, crude futures off overnight highs. Cryptocurrencies higher.

    • Asia equities recovered some poise Tuesday with much of the region's losses on Monday and/or last Friday reversed or bettered. Technology stocks at the forefront of the rally with strong gains at Kioxia (285A.JP), Advantest (6857.JP), Samsung Electronics (005930.KS), and Nanya Tech (2408.TT) among others, while China tech sentiment was supported by a more than 30% gain in Z.AI (2513.HK) after it completed the construction of an expansive data center complex made only with China-made chips.

    • Markets largely shrugged off the latest developments in the Gulf with more missile exchanges by the US and Iran set to one side in favor of optimism over comments from a mediator over a potential ceasefire. Nevertheless, President Trump said to be wavering between further escalation following the deaths of several servicemen, and another ten-day ceasefire. Few other developments today to change the broader narrative. Japan's cabinet approved the government's economic blueprint but the various pledges were overshadowed by another tick higher in JGB yields. China expanded state support for its equity market Monday, targeting lower tier benchmarks and stocks. South Korea President Lee asked the country's finance regulators to take 'quick and aggressive' actions on leveraged ETFs as he looks to cap volatility. In economic news, Taiwan June exports reached a record high $95.3B, up more than 47% m/m.

    • Sumitomo Chemical (4005.JP) is to mass produce new solid state battery material as yearly as 2028. Alibaba (9988.HK) has been hit with a $629M fine by the EU over sales of counterfeit and illegal products. SBI Funds Management (SBIFUNDS.IN) surged around 8% shortly after trading opened in the stock for the first time.
