Jul 27 ,2026

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for negative start to Tuesday trade. Futures signaling steep opening declines in Japan and South Korea. Hong Kong and Australia tracking for muted start. S&P 500 futures flat afterhours. Australian bonds weakening after Treasuries came off best levels. Crude continues to pull lower while gold and silver unchanged. FX markets steady. Bitcoin nearing one-week low.

    • Negative leads for Asian chip stocks following US semi selloff (SOX down 2%). Circularity concerns brought back into focus following Nvidia deals with South Korean memory giants and reports it is in talks to provide ~$250B backstop for OpenAI as part of SoftBank Ohio data center project. Deals also heightened concerns about credit risks with Nvidia CDS rising sharply. ASML sold off following report in the Information China mass producing DUV machines. SK Hynix US ADRs fell 7.5% to below IPO price.

    • Oil extending declines after President Trump said US and Iran back talking with "good chance" of an agreement. Coupled that with warning of renewed strikes if no deal while Iran denied formal negotiations taking place. Markets nonetheless welcoming pause in hostilities with crude off 10% from last week's highs. Strait of Hormuz remains focal point of tensions and there is heightened skepticism of an agreement given Iranian demands for control with fee collection while US insisting on freedom of navigation.
