Synopsis:
Asian markets set for mixed start to Thursday trade. Futures signalling steep opening declines in Japan and South Korea, initial gains in Hong Kong and mild early losses in Australia. S&P 500 futures advancing afterhours. Australian bonds under pressure after Treasury curve bear steepened following Fed hold. Crude steady after rebounding following Trump's threat to strike Iran. Gold and silver higher. Dollar fell by most in two weeks. Bitcoin logged mild gain.
Semi selloff continued into offshore session with SOX index losing another 5%. SK Hynix US ADRs fell 3% after Korean-listed shares sold off Wednesday following earnings miss. While capex sustainability doubts, China competition concerns, and circular financing among main AI talking points, still sense drawdown technically driven. Leverage being blamed for fueling volatility in South Korea, prompting regulators on Wednesday to announce additional curbs on single stock ETFs.

META revenue guidance underwhelmed, reinforcing concerns about ROI. Extent of AI spending invited fresh scrutiny after FCF fell to four-year low while company lifted lower end of 2026 capex guidance range. Said fielding offers for excess compute at premium to what it purchased while it expects significant portion of compute to go towards training models. Also warned of significant financial impact from legal proceedings. Shares down 6% afterhours.
MSFT Azure revenue growth of 43% topped expectations with company forecasting another 45% increase in current quarter. Posted record quarterly increase of $132B in new data center leases, underlining continued demand strength. Capex just below consensus expectations with FY guidance unchanged. Copilot paid users rose to more than 30M from 20M a quarter ago. Shares up 9% afterhours.
QCOM earnings guidance underwhelmed. Company bracing for steeper revenue declines from Android and Apple, reflecting component cost pressures that are affecting smartphone output. Shares down 4% afterhours. ARM also affected by smartphone weakness, forecasting slowdown in royalty growth. Shares down 3% afterhours.
In other overnight developments, Fed unchanged as expected with lack of policy guidance and the three dissents in favor of a rate hike among the takeaways. Treasury 30Y yield rose to highest since 2007. Markets also bracing for US to respond to Iranian missile barrage on Tuesday after President Trump threatened major strike. Houthi threat to impose fees on Red Sea traffic added to supply angst.
