Jul 30 ,2026

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for positive start to Friday trade. Futures signaling strong opening rally in South Korea and Japan following overnight bounce in momentum/semis (SOX up 8%). Australia and Hong Kong also tracking for solid early morning gains. US contracts strengthening afterhours amid post-earnings rally in AMZN. Australian bond yields pulling lower after Treasuries steadied following post-Fed rate backup. Crude recovering from earlier lows. Gold flat and silver up marginally. FX markets steady following big yen rally amid suspected intervention. Bitcoin fluctuating.

    • BOJ expected to keep interest rates unchanged. Press sources noted Outlook Report may show upgrades to GDP forecasts and downgrade to core inflation projections, reflecting reduced Middle East tensions and next round of energy subsidies effective over Q3.Economists anticipating next rate hike in December though markets pricing in an increase as soon as October with latest press discussions highlighting risk of BOJ falling behind the curve after yen fell to lowest levels in 40 years.

    • Tokyo core CPI inflation rose by more than expected as ex-energy and overall inflation returned to 2% target. China official PMIs forecast to show manufacturing and non-manufacturing activity fell back to breakeven after June activity data signaled weak domestic demand outside high tech manufacturing. South Korea industrial production rose at fastest pace in six-years and facilities investment gained amid strength in autos and memory chips. South Korea trade data (Sat) forecast to show export growth eased to 59% y/y in July from 71% in June. Another huge increase in chip exports expected, though influenced more by prices than volumes.

    • US Mag 7 reported earnings afterhours. AMZN AWS revenue growth topped expectations (fastest increase since Q4-2021), overshadowing negative FCF and 2026 capex guidance raise to $220B from $200B. Noted demand continues to exceed capacity and attributed part of capex guidance upgrade to higher memory chip costs. Shares up 9% afterhours. AAPL revenue guidance underwhelmed forecasts with blame going to component shortages. Service revenue disappointed and China sales also fell short of estimates. Shares down 6% afterhours.
