StreetAccount Summary - Asian Market Recap: Hang Seng (1.10%), Shanghai Composite (0.82%), Kospi +0.73% as of 04:10 ET

Aug 11 ,2026

  • Synopsis:

    • Asia equities ended mixed Tuesday in another quiet session. Australia, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore all posted modest gains. Greater China fell while the Hang Seng underperformed the region despite a bright open. India is trading lower while Southeast Asia was mixed. Japan closed for a holiday. US futures mixed, Europe also mixed in the first hour of trade. US dollar DXY index moving back towards 100, Asia currencies tilting lower in late trade. Precious metals paring early gains. Crude futures higher with Brent nearing $90/bl for the first time in two weeks. Some support for base metals.

    • A lackluster day in Asia trading with Japan's markets closed for a holiday and investors awaiting the week's major catalysts. Technology-leaning benchmarks rose amid gains at Samsung Electronics (~005930.KS~) and SK Hynix (~000660.KS~), and a tick higher at TSMC (~2330.TT~) but declines in Hong Kong and mainland China IT & internet stocks offset this somewhat.

    • Traders also mindful of crude prices as they inched higher for a fourth consecutive day just as Tehran's demands for compensation and an end to US sanctions was reciprocated by President Trump's comments that Iran needed to compensate those it had killed in wars and protests. The diplomatic rhetoric unlikely to help peace talks although Tehran officials said there were no direct talks taking place with the US in any case, despite a deal with Oman over Hormuz being 'close'.

    • In other developments, the RBA kept its OCR steady at 4.35% as widely expected and in a unanimous board vote. It also said it would do what was necessary to return inflation to target but also lowered trimmed mean CPI forecasts. Meanwhile, Australia business confidence weakened amid elevated Iran conflict uncertainty. Singapore raised its FY26 GDP growth forecast after raising its Q2 GDP growth number and assessing the AI boom would continue to year end.

    • Shein (+SHEIN) plans to launch its Hong Kong IPO as soon as next Wednesday, according to a Reuters report. Hanwha Aerospace's (012450.KS) US defense unit submitted a non-binding conditional proposal to acquire Austal (ASB.AU) for $1.2B. Samsung SDI (006400.KS) said it will end its joint venture with General Motors (GM) in Indiana by buying out GM's 49.99% share and change its investment plan for the unit to include energy storage systems and EVs. A US judge dismissed criminal case against Gautam Adani (Adani Group, 05SGBG-E), but said the case was "concerning".
