  • Synopsis:

    • European equity markets ended mostly mixed to lower. Food/beverage and telecom best performing sectors, while miners, chemicals and energy the main laggards. Follows weaker performance on Wednesday.

    • Limited regional catalysts for European markets. Not much progress in US-Iran situation. On macro data front, UK monthly activity data surprised on the upside due to services sector outperformance. RICS UK house price update remained weak, though saw a modest improvement on prior update, as expected. Norges Bank left its key rate on hold, as expected, and reiterated that it may still be necessary to raise the policy rate. Eurozone industrial production slightly weaker than forecast. Spanish final CPI revised up from flash. Elsewhere, press reported that former BoE deputy governor Shafik has left her role as chief economic adviser to the PM.

    • In earnings, out of the UK, Antofagasta (ANTO.LN), Entain (ENT.LN) and Savills (SVS.LN) reported before the open. Elsewhere, Adyen (ADYEN.NA) issues H1 and - in Denmark - Maersk (MAERSK.B.DC) shares outperforming following Q2 beat and FY26 guidance upgrade. In DACHs, ThyssenKrupp (TKA.GR) reported Q3, Evotec (EVT.GR) confirms prelim Q2/H1 earnings and FY26 guidance as per 13-Jul update, RWE (RWE.GR) confirms preliminary H1 numbers as of 28-Jul. GRENKE (GLJ.GR) reported Q2 and confirmed FY26 guidance.

    • Looking ahead to tomorrow's EU econ-calendar, key releases will include, amongst others, Switzerland Q2 flash GDP, France Jul final CPI, Eurozone Q2 GDP - 2nd estimate, and Jun trade balance.
