    • The macro calendar was thin today. First August CPI readings from Spain and France arrive this week, alongside Jackson Hole symposium, which remains dominant focus for European rates markets given potential read-through for yields. European EV sales surged on high fuel prices and subsidies. German Chancellor Merz attempting to accelerate pro-growth reforms. Italy extended diesel tax cuts. In UK, productivity growth showed sustained improvement after long slump. In geopolitics, Ukraine to host Coalition of the Willing to seek more air defenses.

    • Limited earnings news flow as well. Allreal Holding (ALLN.SW) and Metall Zug (METN.SW) reported H1 numbers. In Norway, BW Offshore (BWO.NO) released Q2 earnings and cut FY EBITDA guidance. In UK, Tracsis (TRCS.LN) issued FY trading update, whilst BATM Advanced Communications (BVC.LN) reported H1 earnings.

    • In M&A deals, IlSole24ore reported that Banco BPM (BAMI.IM) to meet on 25-Aug to discuss Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (BMPS.IM) ~€25.31B all-share offer, whilst in the UK, London Times says WPP Group (WPP.LN) is poised for £1B boost from Kantar sale as it eyes FTSE return. In Sweden, Evolution (EVO.SS) recommends shareholders to not accept the public cash offer of SEK 695/sh in Evolution submitted by Candle Lake Limited on 13-Aug.

    • Looking ahead to tomorrow's EU econ-calendar, key releases will include, amongst others, Germany Q2 final GDP, Aug IFO survey, and France Aug consumer confidence.
