  • Synopsis:

    • Asia equities ended mixed Thursday. Tech stocks a little directionless post Nvidia earnings with small gains in South Korea and Taiwan but losses for the Nikkei 225. • Asia markets divided in their response to Nvidia's post-close results released overnight, as Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) and SK Hynix (000660.KS) gained slightly, TSMC (2330.TT) was flat; and, while Kioxia (285A.JP) gained Advantest (6857.JP) lost ground. But investors also wary of a tick higher in Treasury yields bond after the PCE inflation gauge stayed above the Fed's target and was higher than consensus; Fed Fund Futures still indicate a 64% chance of no change in September but fully price in one by year end.

    • In regional developments, the Bank of Korea hiked its benchmark interest rate by 25 bps to 3.0% and leaned hawkish in its dot plot and commentary. It also raised FY GDP projections, and tweaked core inflation forecast higher. The Philippines central bank raised its target repo rate 25 bps to 5.0% also to tame inflation. China July industrial profits grew 11.2% y/y but overall growth in the first seven months of the year slowed from 1-6M amid weakening domestic demand. Australia household spending growth beat expectations but leaned into hawkish views on the RBA hiking rates sooner rather than later.
