Aug 31 ,2026

  • Synopsis

    • European indicies are set to open lower as UK markets are closed for a summer Bank holiday. Asian equities lower Monday. Japan, South Korea and Taiwan seeing biggest declines but are off worst levels. Hong Kong leading China markets lower. S&P 500 futures extending Friday declines.

    • Middle East tensions notched higher after US struck two rocket launchers in Strait of Hormuz that were preparing to lay mines. IRGC responded with missile strikes at US bases in Jordan, which were intercepted. Marks first such strike since late July when US ended a bombing campaign intended to degrade Iran's ability to threaten ships in Strait of Hormuz. While diplomacy between US and Iran remains stalled, oil prices had been kept in check partly by the absence of kinetic action over recent weeks.
