Sep 10 ,2026

  • Synopsis:

    • Asia equities ended mostly lower Thursday. The Hang Seng saw the worst of the losses alongside Australia's ASX. Mainland China boards also lower, South Korea's Kospi and Taiex ended down. Southeast Asia down but India pared early losses to trade a little higher. Japan's benchmarks closed a few points higher. US futures mixed, Europe opened little changed. US dollar continues to hover near four-month lows, little movement of note in Asia forex. Treasury and JGBs mixed. Crude futures off overnight highs but Brent remains near $100/bl. Precious metals mixed, base metals down.

    • Asia equities down but largely off their troughs Thursday as US and European futures turned more positive and oil prices, while hovering near recent highs, didn't move much beyond yesterday's peaks. The MSCI Asia Pac ex-Japan index closed around 1.0% lower as oil prices remained elevated and sovereign bond yields hovered near week-long highs. Attention now turns to tomorrow's US inflation data as the next significant catalyst as it could indicate whether the Fed will hike rates this month.

    • In regional developments, more hawkish commentary from a BOJ board member who backed a further rate hike amid the risk of inflation overshooting its target. A Reuters poll today showed 97% of economists expect the BOJ to hike rates next week by 25 bps with around a third expecting another 25 bps in October or December. The Bank of Korea in its semi-annual report hinted strongly that another rate hike was possible but that it could wait to see how two consecutive tightening rounds would develop.

    • Panasonic (6752.JP) CTO said its energy unit had developed a solid-state batter capable of operating at a maximum 150C and samples will be shipped from Q4. India's serious fraud office has recommended a detailed probe into Xiaomi (1810.HK), adding to its problems over tax and frozen assets in the country. Grab (GRAB) is in talks to buy Advance Intelligence's (0P6NSW-E) Atome Financial (0XG316-E) for around $2B, according to a Bloomberg report.
