Sep 16 ,2026

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for mixed start to Thursday trade. Futures signaling opening gains in Japan, negative starts in Hong Kong, South Korea and Australia. S&P 500 futures recovering afterhours. Australian bonds tracking earlier Treasury yield curve bear flattening. Dollar index rose to late July highs following Fed rate hike. Kiwi up marginally after New Zealand GDP topped consensus. Oil extending declines with gold and silver also down sharply. Bitcoin flat.

    • Fed hiked interest rates by 25 bp as expected. Updated dot plot showed median forecast for one more rate hike by year-end. Chair Warsh's press conference drew attention to remarks emphasizing importance of price stability, characterizing rate hike as action to remove some accommodation and support timelier return to inflation target. Hawkish market reaction with Treasury 2Y yield hitting two-year high and futures pricing in ~90% chance of another rate hike by year-end.

    • Oil pullback attributed to an easing of concerns about Middle East supply following reports Saudi Arabia increasing crude flows via Hormuz following pipeline attack and is offering more loadings to Asia off Oman. Bloomberg sources said Saudi Arabia aiming to restore 50% of East-West pipeline capacity within days. Partial relief comes after reports Saudis suspended loadings at Yanbu and canceled some cargoes to Europe. Pressure on refined fuels also spurring talk about countries imposing export curbs.
