Synopsis
European equity futures point to a positive open. Follows Tuesday's weaker performance. Asian equity markets higher. Nikkei, Kospi and Taiex see modest outperformance. US equity futures higher with S&P up ~0.2%. US equities finished lower on Tuesday. Breadth was negative with S&P decliners more than double the gainers.
Markets waiting for key central bank policy decisions. Fed widely expected to raise interest rates by 25 bps later with rate expectations crystalized by August CPI. September odds now at ~90%. BoE set for steady hand on Thursday.
Early focus in Europe on UK inflation after soft labor market update on Tuesday. Other macro data on the agenda includes Eurozone industrial production, labor index and Eurozone wage growth data. Latter to provide snapshot of potential second round effects amid recent upward price on energy prices.
In central banks, Denmark central bank's Krogstrup speech at 10:00CET at the Eurofi Financial Forum in Ireland (through Fri), ECB's Vujčić chairs panel at 14:15CET at ECB Annual Research Conf 'Geoeconomics and the International Trading System' (through Thu) and ECB's Elderson speech at 15:00CET at Nature Finance and Resilience Day of Climate Finance Week Ireland (Mon-Thu). Also, Riksbank releases it's latest business survey at 9:30CET.
In politics, EU's von der Leyen delivers State of the Union address at 9:00CET. In the evening, Chancellor Merz hosts meeting of the Strategy Group for Technology and Innovation, with deliberations on strengthening the national AI ecosystem and the innovation potential in the defense sector on the agenda. Elsewhere, it's European Mobility Week (through Tue) and in Germany, BaFin Conf on Proportionality in Banking Supervision and Regulation as well as Big Bang AI Festival with Federal ministers Wildberger and Schneider as well as Chairman of the CSU Söder and Green Party Co-Chair Brantner, SAP (SAP.GR) Saueressig, others among the attendees/speakers at the latter
A light morning for earnings sees R&S Group Holding (RSGN.SW) reporting H1 results and SFS Group (SFSN.SW) reiterating its expectations for the current year. Elsewhere, Aeroport de Paris (ADP.FP) reported August traffic and GEK Terna (GEKTERNA.GA) reported H1 results.
