Sep 21 ,2026

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for positive start to Tuesday trade. Futures signaling opening gains in Hong Kong and Australia and an initial rally in South Korea. Japan remains closed for public holiday. S&P 500 futures flat afterhours. Australian bonds strengthening after Treasury yields declined. Crude little changed after falling to three-week low. Gold and silver coming off earlier lows. FX markets steady. Bitcoin surged to highest since January.

    • AI trade momentum extended into the offshore session with semis building on recent strength (SOX reached highest since mid-August). Initial concerns about frontier labs slowing pace of AI model development due to safety risks giving way to agentic AI hype. Positive sentiment surrounding META's Muse also reinforced outlook for semi demand, underpinned by agentic AI proliferation and reasoning > inference shift.

    • Oil retreated for a fourth straight session amid favorable Middle East supply headlines. Press highlighting Saudi Arabia increasing crude volumes via Persian Gulf amid Red Sea disruptions, helping to contain oil prices. US also talked up rebound in Hormuz crude volumes to six month high. Oil pullback also helped put some downward pressure on rates following recent backup driven in part by hawkish FOMC takeaways.
