    • European equity markets finished higher on Monday, just below session highs. Industrials, banks and technology the best performers; energy, utilities and miners the big laggards. Follows third consecutive weekly loss for Stoxx 600 last week. US equity markets higher. Bonds firmer. Treasuries stronger with yields down 4-5 bps. Bund 7 bps lower at 3.46%. Gilts down 8 bps at 5.22%. Dollar firmer. Oil down, with WTI crude ~4% lower near $92/bbl. Gold down. Oil under pressure amid Middle East supply headlines highlighting pickup in Saudi crude loadings at Persian Gulf. Industrial metals gain. Bitcoin highest since late Jan, up over 6%.

    • Focus on German politics after CDU defeat in two key elections on Sunday. Chancellor Merz vowed to stay in office despite party failing to clear 5% threshold to enter state parliament in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. French finance ministry said it expects record debt in 2026, near 120% of GDP. Meanwhile, Ukraine launched largest attack on Moscow since conflict in Ukraine started in 2022. Russian said it will intensify attacks in Kyiv in response. Trump pressed Zelenskiy to stop targeting Russian refineries.

    • Quiet macro calendar in Europe. Update from UK property portal Rightmove saw price of UK properties put up for sale increased by 0.7% in September, which exceeded long-run average for the month. Weekend press saw speculation on UK Budget, with reports that PM Burnham and Chancellor Healey are looking at a proposal to raise capital gains tax as high as 45% to fund a handout for lower earners. Projections by KPMG on the outlook showed £12B wiped out from fiscal headroom due to Iran conflict.

    • On the corporate front, Novo Nordisk (NOVO.B.DC) posted strategic ambitions for 2030 ahead of CMD; targets to deliver pipeline sales of more than DKK 150B by 2035 and to increase its obesity customers 10 times. Kuehne & Nagel (KNIN.SW) announced a long-term logistics partnership with Amazon (AMZN) supporting AWS infrastructure construction, deployment and maintenance.

    • Societe Generale (GLE.FP) targets 13-14% RoTE by 2029 and above 15% from 2030. Volvo Car (VOLCAR.B.SS) appointed Klaus Zellmer as CEO, replacing Samuelsson by 1-Oct-27. Porsche (P911.GR) CEO ruled out further job cuts. Ipsen (IPN.FP) faces increased pressure after Amneal received US approval for a generic lanreotide.
