European indices are set to open higher with Asian equities trading mixed. Japan gains, Hong Kong sharply lower. Much of the region offline for holidays (mainland China, South Korea, Taiwan). Market sentiment continues to revolve around the Middle East conflict translating to higher oil prices, inflation and bond yields.US equities were mixed in Thursday trading. Stocks reversed earlier declines after latest positive US/Iran updates.
Xinhua cited China President Xi as saying the new US-China trade agreement was good news for the global economy, though there were no further details. Remark was taken as an acknowledgement of the truce extension to 10-Jan announced by US Treasury Secretary Bessent. No news of purchase commitments. Boeing (BA) said to be losing hopes for a new round of aircraft orders on top of the 200 planes in the May deal (Reuters).
Friday sees, in central banks, Norges Bank's Robstad discusses bank's latest monetary policy report at 10:00CET at event in London. ECB's Buch panellist at 14:15CET at annual conf. "ESRB@15: may you stay forever young". ECB's Vujčić panellist at 20:00CET at Inflation Conf jointly organised by Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland and the ECB.
