Asian markets set for mostly positive start to Monday trade. Futures signaling early morning strength in Japan, quiet start in Hong Kong. Mild initial gain in Australia.. S&P 500 futures up slightly after US indexes rose Friday following softer-than-expected payrolls data. FX markets steady with dollar index near highest Apr-2025. Crude flat. Gold little changed while silver strengthening. Bitcoin nearing two-week high.
Japan PM Takaichi to give speech at Diet where she will lay out government's policies. Nikkei recently cited draft version of speech, which is expected to mount defense of her spending priorities. Takaichi to provide reassurances to bond market policy will respond nimbly to changes in economic and financial market conditions, though consumption tax cut bill continues to attract scrutiny amid questions about funding sources. Superlong JGB yields have pushed up to record highs amid longstanding concerns about Japan's fiscal trajectory.
Shapes as a quieter week across Asia with mainland China offline through Wednesday for National Day. BOJ Governor Ueda slated to remark Tuesday as markets price in another rate hike by year-end. RBI (Wed) expected to hike interest rates. Japan 10Y (Tues) and 30Y (Thurs) bond auctions will test investor appetite following the recent upward move in yields. Japan household spending (Fri) and wage data (Wed), and Taiwan exports (Thurs) among handful of other data points.
