Synopsis:
Asian markets set for negative start to Thursday trade. Futures signaling opening declines in Japan, Hong Kong and a flat start in South Korea. Initial weakness in Australia. Mainland China resumes trade following National Day holiday. S&P 500 futures unchanged afterhours. Australian bonds strengthening with curve steepening. FX markets steady after euro fell sharply against dollar. Crude lifting from earlier lows. Gold little changed while silver extending declines. Bitcoin down to two-week low.
Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) Q3 preliminary revenue and operating profit came in below estimates. Previews were looking beyond quarterly change in earnings ahead of company's full Q3 presentation later this month. LTA updates, including pace of contract price growth, extent of FX headwinds, competitive pressures, updates on memory shortfall timeline, and margin impact from higher memory costs among focus areas.
Rate stabilization attributed strong 10Y Treasury auction, helping to dampen earlier upward pressure on yields from renewed concerns about France's fiscal position and crowing out effects of AI-driven debt issuance (SpaceX's $40B raise to buy Nvidia chips). Rate pullback also corresponded with pullback in oil as markets looked past pickup in kinetic action in SoH and Yemen, and report Trump is seeking to develop strike plans against Iran.
