StreetAccount Summary - Asian Market Preview: Nikkei Futures (2.46%), Hang Seng Futures (1.10%), ASX SPI 200 (0.89%), S&P Futures (0.30%)

Oct 14 ,2026

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian equities set for negative start to Thursday trade. Futures signaling steep opening declines in Japan and South Korea. Hong Kong also tracking for early morning losses. S&P 500 futures extending declines afterhours. Australian bonds strengthening in-line with Treasury curve bull flattening. Dollar inching higher against yen and euro after DXY hit highest since Apr-2025. Crude little changed. Gold inching above overnight lows. Silver flat. Bitcoin unchanged.

    • Negative leads for Asia from overnight selloff in AI trade. SOX fell 4% with SK Hynix ADRs dropping 6% amid a broader plunge in memory/semis. Selloff attributed in part to hotter-than-expected US CPI, which drove a hawkish repricing of Fed rate path. Underwhelming guidance from ASML, rising CDS spreads, AI financing worries, China competition, and speculative investor behavior among other bearish AI talking points this week. South Korea ground zero for latest memory selloff with SK Hynix and Samsung down 16% and 11% wtd.

    • TSMC reports Q3 earnings later Thursday with consensus looking for a more than 60% y/y increase in net profit. Last week company recorded better-than-expected 51% y/y rise in revenue, underlining continued strength of AI demand. FY revenue guidance upgrade, capex plans (including further Texas expansion), wafer pricing, and CoWoS updates among focus areas going into earnings report and earnings call. Stock hit record high last week before retreating amid global semiconductor selloff.
