StreetAccount Summary - Asian Market Preview: Nikkei Futures (1.69%), Hang Seng Futures +0.28%, ASX SPI 200 (0.09%), S&P Futures +0.35%

Nov 01 ,2026

  • Synopsis:

    • Asian markets set for negative start to Monday trade. Futures signaling steep opening declines in Japan and South Korea. Hong Kong tracking for a muted start. S&P 500 futures gaining following tech-led selloff on Friday. Australian bonds weakening, contrasting with another retreat in Treasury yields on Friday. FX markets steady. Crude reversing lower. Gold little changed. Silver lifting from Friday's lows. Bitcoin recovering after Binance resumed withdrawals following last week's $6.3B hack.

    • Negative leads for Asian AI stocks following rout in US semis on Friday that saw SOX close down 7%. AMZN and INTC's post-earnings selloff capped off a turbulent week for big tech stocks, where select earnings takeaways highlighted contrast between huge investment outlays, cash burn and slowing growth in core businesses. There were also concerns about market's ability to digest expanding debt and equity issuance.

    • Crude pulling lower following latest Middle East reports noting mediators and Iranian officials continuing diplomatic efforts. Latest reports noted talks center on deal to reopen Strait of Hormuz within two days. While Iran reiterated its pre-conditions for reopening Hormuz, country's security chief Rezai noted change in tone from US and claimed readiness to accept Tehran's conditions. Fears of conflict following midterm elections remain high with Trump and Iran continuing war rhetoric.

    • China media reported PBOC and other regulatory officials convening meeting Monday to discuss ways to stabilize markets, including measures to encourage buybacks. Comes after a volatile month that saw CSI 300 fall to lowest since mid-2025 after latest data signaled continued domestic economic weakness while policy support announcements failed to resonate. Tech/semis the biggest decliners, sending Hang Seng tech gauge down to two-year low amid deteriorating AI sentiment. Sporadic reports of national team intervention over October also did little to lift stocks.
