StreetAccount Summary - Asian Market Recap: Nikkei (0.33%), Hang Seng +0.42%, Shanghai Composite +1.08% as of 03:10 ET

Nov 02 ,2026

  • Synopsis:

    • Asia equities ended mixed Monday. Tech-leaning benchmarks were also divided as Japan's Nikkei 225 and Taiwan's Taiex both closed lower but the Kospi and China's Shenzhen ended with solid gains. The Topix, ASX and Singapore's STI all fell. On the positive side, India stocks are trading higher while Shanghai and Hong Kong rose. US futures indicate a higher open, Europe opened with small gains. US dollar dipping slightly, quiet in Asia crosses. Treasuries and JGBs mixed. Crude prices sharply lower with Brent back at $110/bl. Precious metals higher, base metals lower. Cryptocurrencies back under pressure.

    • Asia equities traded without a firm direction Monday amid a weak handover from the US Friday, and with plenty of catalysts ahead this week. South Korea's Kospi tracked US futures higher and China's Shenzhen recovered from last week's slump, but Japan's tech sector under pressure after Kioxia (285A.JP) fell more than 15% on a poorly received outlook statement. Mainland China stocks climbed on reports Beijing's three financial regulators were meeting with banks Monday over extending loans to companies for share buyback programs, and on expanding a lending program to state-backed AMs to support stock purchases. Australia stocks capped their recent rise ahead of the RBA rate decision tomorrow in which markets now price an 85% chance of a 25 bps hike.

    • Asia investors also bracing for the US mid-term elections in which the Democrats may yet take both houses of Congress but will likely be thwarted in any attempt to roll back President Trump's agenda, particularly on tariffs. Elsewhere, regional PMIs trended downward with new orders and output growth either slowing or contracting in tech dominated nations; China's official and private readings were mixed while those in Southeast Asia showed manufacturing expanding.

    • Kioxia (285A.JP) said late Friday it expects operating profit for this quarter to be only just above that of its September quarter, hinting at a stalling of demand; stock fell sharply. Tokyo Electron (8035.JP) posted a better-than-expected annual outlook on an expected acceleration in demand from chipmakers; stock ended higher. SK Square (402340.KS) enhanced its shareholder return program with at least $3.2B of recurring dividend income from its holding in SK Hynix returned to shareholders.
