Synopsis:
Asian markets set for mostly negative start to Wednesday trade. Futures signaling opening declines in Japan and Hong Kong, initial gains in South Korea. S&P 500 futures advancing afterhours. Australian bonds little changed after Treasuries weakened overnight with some curve steepening. FX markets steady with dollar little changed on major crosses. Crude recovering with latest US-Iran headlines leaning more cautiously. Gold and silver flat. Bitcoin unchanged.
AI trade fared better overnight following heavy drawdown over recent sessions attributed in large part to a pickup in funding concerns. SOX index rose 3%. Sentiment recovered with compute demand still a core component of the AI narrative. Super Micro Computer (SMCI) up 10% in post market trade after revenue guidance topped estimates, underlining continued strong demand for AI servers.
Midterm elections expected to dominate headlines with polls and betting markets favoring a Democratic sweep of Congress. However, also thoughts market implications will be limited and some Street forecasts expect stocks to gain in any scenario. Stocks have historically gained after elections with vote seen as a clearing event. Some concern about Democrats' push to toughen AI regulation though Trump's presidential veto a likely constraint on any legislation.
